During my first prolonged stay in Berlin with my new companion, we shared an apartment in Neukölln. Sitting in our living room, we could not help but notice the planes as they approached Tempelhof, expecting them to land right in our living room. Setting up my work desk next to the sofa, I produced many of the slide-collages from that period, which also included shots I had taken of our living room. The obvious temptation was to cut out the window and door, replacing the content with views from other destinations. After that it was easy to substitute entire walls with the slide material from my travels during that period: images from Cologne, Zagreb, Pietrasanta, Milan, even a tunnel on the Canal des Ardennes in northern France. These collages became the Roomscape Series: I, II, III & IV.
