The SPVH Pavilion was designed with five automated doors which would open separately, all covered with solar panels, on the one hand to show what we can do with our advances in technology, but also asking the question, “do we really need it?” As an extension to these doors, the idea to isolate one door as a free-standing installation, opening in both directions, took on an imperative appeal. To begin realising this automatron, a functional autonomous solar powered model was built, which was the first step in what would become the life-size installation.
